Central Station / La Central is McAllen’s version of Grand Central Station. This 22,000 square foot facility has evolved as a transportation hub for bus travel in the Rio Grande Valley and in the Texas border area, and as one of the top transit facilities throughout the State of Texas. Indeed, this impressive $4.3 million facility is unlike any other. It is the only major bus terminal along the U.S.-Mexico border to house American and Mexican bus lines and also serves as the city's primary station for its city bus service. This state of the art facility is centrally located in the heart of McAllen’s downtown commercial district, between 15th and 16th streets along business highway 83. Giving all terminal users easy access to one of McAllen’s greatest attractions, shopping! Its location along business 83, also lends the convenience of accessibility to local travelers. Central Station is equipped with 14 bus bays, a 250-seat lobby, 14 ticket counters for bus lines, a restaurant, a news shop, bathrooms, vending machines, water fountains, storage space and administrative offices. In addition to housing a wide array of bus companies, Central Station also affords its passengers the convenient access to a Subway Restaurant and to all newsstand / gift shop services offered through Express Business Services Newsstand. Number of Passengers During its second year of operation, Central Station hosted approximately 1.3 million people. Approximately 60,709 people depart from Central Station per month.
