How can I participate on the Community Development committee?
An application to be on the Community Development Committee can be obtained from the Office of the City Secretary. The City Commission then makes all appointments.
How can I get more information on projects that receive funding?
A listing of all projects funded by CDBG can be obtained by calling the Community Development Office at (956) 972-7241
What type of projects does the City receive funding for?
The City may receive funding for any of the following types of programs: Parks & Recreation, After School Recreation, Law Enforcement Equipment, New Home Construction, Housing Rehabilitation, Land Acquisition, and Services for the Elderly.
How can I get information about obtaining a home loan?
The City provides loan funding for new home and the rehabilitation of homes through McAllen Affordable Homes Inc. Mr. Robert Calvillo, Director of the program, can be reached at 687-6263 or an application can be obtained by visiting the McAllen Affordable Homes office, which is located at 1420 Erie in McAllen.
Does the City provide funding for Emergency Shelter or feeding the poor?
The City provides funding to the Salvation Army, Women Together and Comfort House to provide emergency shelter and free food to McAllen Food Pantry for distribution to the needy.
