Mission Statement

The Information Technology (IT) department provides administration and appropriation of technological support and solutions to our staff and elected officials to enhance our overall service to the citizens and visitors of the city of McAllen.

Major Projects for Year 2010/11

  • Implement new ERP System.
  • Expand City Fiber network for facilities.
  • Upgrade/Replace Microsoft Exchange Email.
  • Expand Wi-Fi network.

Services Provided

Help Desk Services
Provides assistance to City staff on desktop software applications and other centralized software applications. Also support PC workstations, laptops, printers, and servers.
Infrastructure Design and Support
Provides design and support of the centralized network that connects all City buildings via T1, Fiber and wireless networks.
Internet, Intranet, and E-mail Support
Maintains the City web presence and internal City web pages. Monitors the adherence to the City's Internet Policy and provides strategies and new technologies with Internet implications. Maintains the E-mail server/software for all City employees.
Technology Planning Services
Assist City departments in developing proposals for information technology projects; including development of technical specifications, requests for proposals, and project planning services.
PC Purchases and Replacements
Provides coordination of purchasing and replacing PC workstations to City employees.
Telecommunications
Provides support for City internal telephone systems, outside telephone service for voice and data, and long distance service for City employees.
Radio Support
Provides support for all radio infrastructure and is primary City interface to third party vendors for radio support.
