Building Permit Process

Overview

Both residential and commercial building permits are reviewed by the COM Engineering Department for issuance of a Right-of-Way Permit.  This review includes proposed public improvements within the City’s right-of-way, such as driveways, entrances, sidewalks, handicap ramps, water, sanitary sewer, drainage, and street/alley paving.

Although a right-of-way permit fee is not required at this time, applicants must provide the following information for review and approval of the permit request: site address, subdivision name, subdivision block, lot number, owner’s name, address, and phone number, contractor’s name, address, and phone number, the designated contact person for the project, a dimensioned site plan indicating the proposed improvements, lot grading plan for residential lots, an engineered drainage detention plan for commercial lots, and any necessary easement documentation.  Additional permit approvals are required for construction within the State road right-of-way through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
