Overview

The Department's duties are building plan review, issuing of building permits and conducting the required inspections to assure citizens a high level of safety in buildings in which they live, work, play and worship

The Chief Building Official oversees the functions of the Inspection Department Staff, which consist of license and certified Building Inspectors, Building Plan Examiners and the Administrate Assistant and clerical staff.

Chief Building Official: The Chief Building Official provides interpretations to the building code and city ordinances as they relate to plans and permits. The Chief Building Official also arbitrates discrepancy concerning plans, permits and inspections.

Building Plan Review: This division performs reviews of residential and commercial plans to verify construction design meets the minimum code requirements and applicable city ordinances. The division consists of a Permit Technician, Plans Examiners and a Supervisor Plan Examiner.
Supervisor Plan Examiner: Robert Gomez robert_gomez@mcallen.net
Building Inspectors: This division conducts inspection during the construction phase to verify the structure being built or remodel meets the minimum code requirements and applicable city ordinances. This division consists of a Housing Inspector, Combination Building Inspectors and a Supervisor Building Inspector.

Inspection Clerical Staff: This division issues all building permits and is the record keeper for all inspections/results from various departments engage with the building permit process. This division consists of Inspections Clerks and an Administrative Assistant.
