Training Division

The McAllen Fire Department Training Division has the responsibility to coordinate; schedule and implement both externally and internally mandated training requirements for all 172 employees of the department. Every year the Training Division ensures that all required continuous education hours are met to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, Federal Aviation Administration and the Texas Department of Health.

Furthermore, the Training Division conducts unique training in the following specialized disciplines; Hazardous Materials Response, Confined Space Rescue, Fire Investigations, Building Inspections, Driver and Officer Development, Instructor development, Hurricane Preparedness and Public Education/Fire Prevention education.

The Training Division maintains a video library of over 300 titles and a traditional library of over 500 books. The video library is maintained online for easy searching and browsing from any McAllen Fire Department substation. The Training Division also maintains the McAllen Fire Department drill field, which includes a 4-story training tower, a two bedroom “smoke house” and a drafting pit for simulated drafting operations.

The McAllen Fire Department Training Division is a Texas Commission Certified Training facility in the following disciplines; Basic Fire Suppression, Driver/Operator, Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Fire Investigator and Aircraft Rescue Fire Suppression. This enables the Training Division to keep the members of the McAllen Fire Department ready to provide the highest levels of service to the citizens and visitors of McAllen.
