McAllen ISD was the first Valley school district to introduce the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme in 2001. The percentage of students who earn their IB Diplomas (recognized world wide and worth up to 24 college credit hours in Texas) is among the highest on the globe (98.4 percent). McAllen ISD is moving toward becoming an IB school district by 2014.

Texas A&M Health Science CenterThe Texas A&M Health Science Center - McAllen Campus was established in 2000 and provides comprehensive, accessible health education programs and services to residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Since 2004, the McAllen Campus has been housed in a 23,000-square-foot facility providing space for laboratories, offices, classrooms and conference areas used to deliver a wide range of health training, clinical research, medical education, community interventions and public health programs with local partners.

Casso Nursing and Allied Health Center in McAllen, and the Technology Center in south McAllen near the Foreign Trade Zone.
