UTPA Students Present Original Wildlife Book to Library
McAllen, TX, November 11, 2009 — McAllen Memorial Library will host UTPA students as they present an original wildlife book to area libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs and Bentsen State Park in the library’s Exhibit Room on Thursday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
UTPA students will present their project, Little Louie’s Big Adventure, a children’s storybook with full-plate color illustrations tracing a Kingfisher’s journey through Bentsen State Park.
The book is the product of a writing class at UTPA that focused on service learning at Bentsen. Dr. Philip Zwerling, Assistant Professor in the English Department of UTPA says, “I challenged students to come up with writing projects that enhance this local environmental treasure. They produced the book, calendars, original full color postcards of wildlife, a Facebook page, and a YouTube video.”
The UTPA English Department and Creative Writing Program funded the production of 40 copies of the book, which will be presented in the December 3 ceremony. McAllen Memorial Library is located at 601 N. Main Street. For more information, contact Dr. Philip Zwerling at (956) 318-8975.
