The 26th annual Candlelight Posada will implement a new Park-n-Ride System for this year’s event.  The parking garage located at 221 S. 15th Street will have 350 available spaces open to the public.  Candlelight Posada attendees may choose to park in the garage for a low flat rate of $5 and a transit bus will transport them to Archer Park.

The Park-n-Ride System will run Friday afternoon from 5 to 7pm and 9 to 10pm; Saturday from 3pm to 5pm and 8pm to 9pm.  Buses will transport attendees to and from the parking garage every 5-10 minutes during the hours of operation.  “Due to the numbers in attendance during Candlelight, we feel this is a wonderful addition that will help those who are used to parking far away and walking several blocks to be part of the festivities,” said Annabell Cortina, Director of Special Events & Media for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.  “We invite all those who are joining us for the Candlelight Posada to try to utilize this new system.  We hope to make this a permanent part of the annual event.”

Candlelight Posada continues to hold true as the most anticipated event of the season and of the year.  Last year, Candlelight Posada celebrated its 25th anniversary and brought in over 38,000 attendees.  The event kicks off with a lighted Christmas parade on Main Street and the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas tree on Friday night and continues throughout the evening with plenty of entertainment for the entire family.  Teen Town and Little Town are big attractions for teens and small children with plenty of games and activities. On Saturday night, the community joins in singing along with the nativity procession of the re-enactment of Mary & Joseph seeking shelter.  Musical entertainment will follow throughout the evening for the entire family.

This event is free and open to the public and will be held at Archer Park on Friday, December 5th from 5pm to 10pm and Saturday, December 6th from 3pm to 9pm.  For more information, please contact Annabell Cortina at 956-682-2871 or acortina@mcallencvb.com.
