Recycle Your Christmas Tree! Drop-offs Available

The City of McAllen is encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees this holiday season to lessen the amount of waste in the landfills. Live Christmas trees are biodegradable and the trunk and branches can be used as mulch for gardens, parks and in animal stalls.

The mulch provides a protective barrier for the roots of other plants and vegetation while preventing weeds from growing. The mulch then decomposes providing needed nutrients to plants.

“The holiday season is a great time to remember to give back to your community by recycling your Christmas tree,” says Ouina Rutledge, McAllen Recycling Center Director. “Instead of burning your tree you can bring it by our Christmas tree drop off locations to recycle it.”

The City of McAllen’s Recycling Center requests that you please remove any Christmas lights and/or ornaments on the trees.

Residents are asked to take caution with Christmas trees because they will dry up quickly if not cared for properly and that could amount to a fire within seconds.

The hours of operation for the Recycling Center are Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Saturday 8:00 A.M. –12:00 P.M. (noon). If you have any questions please contact the McAllen Recycling Center at: 681-4050.

The City of McAllen will be collecting trees at the following locations:
