4th of July Celebration Plans
2009 Theme: “Saluting Everyday Heroes”
McALLEN, Texas – The City of McAllen is proud to announce the lineup of its 81st Annual 4th of July Celebration.
The celebration will begin with the Patriotic Program and Parade at 8:30 a.m.The Patriotic Program will feature a keynote address by James A. McNair, American Legion Department of Texas Commander. The parade theme is “Saluting Everyday Heroes”, begins at Jackson and Main Street in Downtown McAllen and ends at Archer Park. Over 140 entries will be in the parade are expected to participate in this year's event. The parade will feature dignitaries, a number of floats, antique cars, and marching groups. Last year, an estimated crowd of 25,000 people attended the parade.
Following the program and parade, a variety of activities will be available at Archer Park as well, including music, food and refreshment booths, games, and arts and crafts until 3:00 p.m. A special performance by Deborah Case Dance Studio will be featured. On Saturday afternoon, the excitement heads to Municipal Park for a Kiddie Carnival from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Food and refreshment booths will also be available.
The evening activities of the 4th of July Celebration will also take place on Saturday, July 4th, in Municipal Park. The 31st Annual Aquafest Water Show starts at 6:30 p.m. at Municipal Swimming Pool. The show features trick diving, swimming and splash contests, as well as a special appearance by Gus & Goldie! The annual 4th of July “Concert in the Sky” will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. You can listen to a radio broadcast on 107.9 KVLY, Mix FM.
