City Seeks Input On Proposed Garbage, Recycling Collection
The solid waste division of McAllen Public Works is seeking input from residents on a proposal that would change garbage and recycling collection to one day a week.
It's a move that could save the city an estimated $214, 000 thousand dollars a year.
Under the proposed idea, the City of McAllen would be divided into 4 sections and residents in each section would be assigned one day for collection of their black trash bins AND their blue recycle bins.
In addition to increasing efficiency and reducing costs, city leaders hope the new schedule will encourage residents to recycle.
If adopted, the changes would take effect on January 2011.
Surveys are available through Friday, September 3, 2010, on the first floor of City Hall (Main & Houston).
