Hundreds of people gathered Saturday, May 19, for the grand opening of Town Lake at Firemen's Park, at 2nd Street and Old 83, in McAllen. The park had been temporarily closed while the historic site was revitalized to add several amenities including the main attraction, a 4-acre lake.
Park visitors will have plenty to enjoy such as catch and release fishing, kayaking and canoeing and camping. A large pavilion is also available for rental, through the McAllen Parks and Recreation office for large gatherings. It includes barbecue facilities, tables and chairs. Guests are also welcome to use the sand volleyball court, horse shoe pits, and two playscapes.
Restroom facilities are located at the north and south ends of the property.
A paved walking trail winds around the full perimeter of the lake, which includes a fishing pier and man made island.
Town Lake at Firemen’s Park is open from 7:00AM to 11:00PM every day of the week.
