Keep McAllen Beautiful Launches Adopt-a-Spot Program

McAllen, TX June, 2012 – Keep McAllen Beautiful has launched Adopt-a-Spot, a new litter abatement and prevention program that was modeled from Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDot) Adopt-a-Highway. Keep McAllen Beautiful hopes that this program will attract volunteers who want to take pride in our community by helping to clean up litter in McAllen.

Although this city oriented program is popular and has been established in larger cities, it is new to our region. With more motorists comes more litter and with McAllen growing rapidly KMB saw a need to launch its own Adopt-a-Spot, a program that gives community groups the opportunity to maintain a ditch or street right-of-way in McAllen. According to TxDot research adopted highways are typically less littered than those maintained by crews because motorists respond when they see volunteers hard at work.

Keep McAllen Beautiful is also a participant in TxDot’s original Adopt a Highway volunteer program from which Adopt a Spot was modeled from. Adopt a Highway was established in 1985. The program aims to save tax payers money, keep right of ways clean, and build Texan pride.
