Commissioners Honor Former State Representative Gonzales
At Monday's McAllen City Commission meeting (7.23.12), former District 41 State Representative Veronica Gonzales was given a Key to the City and honored with a proclamation announcing July 23 as "State Representative Veronica Gonzales' Day".
The proclamation was read by Commissioner Marcus C. Barrera and the entire City Commission presented Ms. Gonzales with the Key to the City.
Representative Gonzales served as McAllen's representative for 8 years. Her work was lauded around Texas which earned her numerous titles and awards including the Legislative Champion Award from the Texas Assocation of Community Health Centers and the Patient Advocacy Award from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. Representative Gonzales' expertise and command of border, Hispanic, medical, women's and other issues made her an undisputed leader among her peers.
