McAllen Stair Climb ’14 – Climbers Share their Stories

by Public Information Office | Sep 25, 2014

More than 300 climbers started and finished the McAllen Stair Climb ’14 at Neuhaus Tower in McAllen, Texas on Sunday, September 14th.  The McAllen Fire Department assisted their firefighters who were organizing the event.  Funds from the event will go to Tuesday’s Children and the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force which helps a firefighter’s family if a firefighter dies in the line of duty.

Firefighters, Police, Border Patrol, EMT’s and citizens participated in the Climb, each climber had to walk the 17 floors at Neuhaus Tower - six and a half times to reach a total of 110 floors.  Each climber was assigned one of the 343 New York City firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center (WTC).  Each climber wore a small picture of that firefighter who died.

Firefighters also had a ceremony in remembrance of those lost on 9/11 before the stair climb challenge starts.  Hundreds of other cheered the climbers throughout the event.
