McAllen- Beginning Oct. 1, customers in McAllen will see a $2 increase in their water and sewer monthly bill. The City Commission approved the upsurge Sept. 28.

The water base rate fee of $6.95 will be increased to $7.95 and the sewer base rate fee will move from $9 to $10.

“While it is always a difficult decision to increase fees of basic commodities such as water and sewer, it is one that is needed in order to keep pace with one of the fastest growing areas in the state,” said MPU General Manager Mark Vega. “The MPU is meeting the challenge with a diversity of projects that will ensure compliance with state standards, sufficient sewer services and safe, high- quality drinking water for our community.”

Even with the proposed increase, the MPU offers superior products with quality customer service at an extremely competitive rate, both locally and state wide.
