Officials from the cities of McAllen and Reynosa officials will celebrate their reaffirmation as sister cities on April 27, in McAllen, Texas.
Back in July 24, 1992, McAllen and Reynosa had signed a resolution to become sister cities. Since then, the relationship between both cities has been that of a sisterhood, collaborating and partnering through the years in multiple binational projects such as manufacturing, health, tourism, education, culture, commerce and international trade.
“For the last 24 years since the resolution was signed back in 1992, Reynosa and McAllen have had a very close relationship and we have considered each other as sister cities.” Said Luis Cantu, Vice President for International Relations ,” This year though, we want to make official our sisterhood with Reynosa, and pave the way for more opportunities s to cooperate and grow our relationship and impact our communities” Cantu concluded.
The Mexican Consulate in McAllen and the US Consulate in Matamoros will be witnessing the signing of the sister city agreement by City of McAllen Mayor, Jim Darling and Reynosa Mayor, Jose Elias Leal.
The signing ceremony will take place at the McAllen City Hall at 5:00 PM.
