McAllen Tax Department Drop Box Now Available: Satellite location allows for convenient drop-off

The City of McAllen Tax Department now has a Tax Drop Box available just outside at the McAllen Development Center at 311 N. 15thStreet. Customers who are unable to pay property taxes in person or do not want to stand in line can now place their property tax payments in the Tax Drop Box which is located on the south side of the building facing Cedar Avenue.

 

Payments placed in the drop box by 11:59 p.m. of due dates are considered timely. The residents’ canceled check or money order stub will serve as receipt.  Please place payments in a sealed envelope and do not place any cash or any other payments due to the City of McAllen in the Tax Drop Box. 

 

All 2017 property taxes are due by January 31, 2018.  Property taxes can be paid at the following locations in the following manner of payment:

  • City of McAllen Tax Department, 311 N. 15th Street, in person, via check, cash, money order or debit or credit card.  Those office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.;
  • U.S. Postal Service via mail to City of McAllen Tax Department, P.O. Box 220, McAllen, TX 78505-0220.  Payments made with U.S. Postal Service postmark on or before January 31, 2018 are considered timely.  Commercial postal meter imprints are not considered postmarks. 
  • City of McAllen website, http://www.mcallen.net/departments/tax, via debit or credit card and electronic check.

 

All credit, debit & electronic check payments are subject to an additional convenience fee, as well.  Convenience fee is 3% for transactions over $100; $3 for transactions $100 or less.

 

Penalty and interest begins to accrue on February 1, 2018.  If residents have not received a statement, or have misplaced your statement, please contact the City of McAllen Tax Office at (956) 681-1330.  Failure to receive a tax statement does not affect the validity of penalties and interest.
