Code Enforcement to Conduct Sweep of Downtown McAllen

by Public Information Office | Nov 18, 2020

Although the community has made significant improvements, COVID-19 still poses a serious public health threat.  Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order GA-32 on October 7, 2020 which only permits bars to operate at fifty percent capacity if, and only if, the local county judge has approved operations and filed appropriate documentation with Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

After careful analysis, Hidalgo County has NOT authorized the operation of bars for on-premises services. Despite this directive, the City of McAllen has been made aware of continued operations in violation of state and local orders. As such, City of McAllen Code Enforcement Department will be present in downtown McAllen this upcoming weekend to ensure compliance with the orders.

The City of McAllen asks all bar operators to voluntarily comply with the order and cease any unlawful operations.
