Overview

The Parks and Recreation Department hosts many athletic events throughout the year. From tournaments to special athletic competitions, there are always plenty of events for the athlete in you to participate in.

Athletic Events

International Friendship Run
The premier running event of South Texas, featuring hundreds of runners from all over Texas, the United States, and Mexico. This exciting race begins at Anzalduas Park in Mission, TX and ends at Los Encinos Park in McAllen, TX. A sports exposition and post-race awards ceremony also highlight November’s annual event.
McPumpkin Run

The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce the City's only 7,500 meter run to be held this October.  Get your sneakers on and get ready to be a part of the McPumpkin Run at Palm View Golf Course.  T-Shirts will be awarded to the first 200 participants.  Refreshments and trophies will be given out following the race.
Sunchaser 5K Series
2009 Results: Sunriser / Sunscorcher / Sunsetter / Moonriser
Follow the Sun ... the 5K Sunchaser that is! Come join the "coolest" 5K’s of the Summer. We’ll be hosting three runs during the Summer. T-shirts will be given to the first 75 participants registered in each event. We’ll have awards and refreshments after each race. Overall series awards will be presented following the last race.

NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass, & Kick
Join the McAllen Parks and Recreation Department for the annual Pepsi Punt, Pass, & Kick competition. This competition allows boys and girls ages 8 to 15 the opportunity to punt, pass, & kick their way to an NFL playoff game.
McAllen Open Tennis Tournament
Each year, the McAllen Parks and Recreation Department hosts the McAllen Open Tennis Tournament. The tournament includes men’s, women’s, and youth singles, doubles, and mixed doubles brackets.
