4th of July Celebration 2009
The City of McAllen is proud to announce the lineup of its 81st Annual 4th of July Celebration. The City of McAllen encourages everyone to attend the festivities as we celebrate America’s Independence and honor those who have protected our freedom.

Candlelight Posada
Candlelight Posada is the City of McAllen's annual holiday celebration.  Held the first weekend of December, this event features a parade and posada reenactment.  Archer Park is the backdrop and features entertainment on three stages as well as dozens of food booths.

Golden Age Olympics Updated December 16, 2008
The Golden Age Olympics is an Olympic-style event for participants age 50 and over. The competition features individual events in a number of categories, including card games, athletics and recreation. 2009 marks the 28th year of the event. It began in 1983 with three events and currently offers over 30. This year’s Golden Age Olympics is sponsored by South Texas Health System's Senior Advantage Program, H-E-B, APEX Primary Care, and Texas Healthspring.

Halloween Festival
The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation, Police and Fire Departments will host the Annual Halloween Festival on Friday, October 31, 2008. The festival will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lark, Las Palmas and Palm View Community Centers. Each center will feature games, contests, food and candy, prizes, a Haunted House and many other activities.
International Friendship Run
The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department hosts the International Friendship Run, a 10K race that starts along the Mexico border and ends in McAllen, Texas. The International Friendship Run is the premiere running event in South Texas.
