Assistant City Attorney Honored by Texas Young Lawyer’s Association

 Victor A. Flores, an Assistant City Attorney with the McAllen City Attorney's Office will be awarded the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association (TYLA) President’s Award at the upcoming annual meeting.
TYLA is a department of the State Bar of Texas and is commonly referred to as the “public service arm.”  TYLA's primary purpose is to facilitate the administration of justice, foster respect for the law, and advance the role of the legal profession in serving the public.
According to the organization, Flores made many significant contributions to the 2016-2017 bar year. In particular, leading efforts to bring high quality, low-cost continuing legal educations programming to traditionally underserved areas.
Additionally, Flores has also received an appointment to the Texas Bar Journal of Editors for a two-year term. In print since 1938, the Texas Bar Journal serves as the publication of record for the Supreme Court of Texas, a scholarly legal journal, and the association magazine for the State Bar of Texas.
“I am extremely proud that Victor was elected to this prestigious foundation of attorneys to help them with their mission to provide legal assistance to worthwhile causes throughout the state,” said Kevin Pagan, City Attorney, City of McAllen.
Flores also serves as TYLA District 25 Representative to the American Bar Association; and Director for the Hidalgo County Bar Association, where he helps to organize various community service projects and provide continued legal education opportunities for attorneys practicing in Hidalgo County. Prior to practicing law, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps (Infantry) and is an Iraq War veteran. He graduated from the University of Texas-RGV and Western Michigan University – Cooley Law School.
Flores serves all city departments, but focuses on advising the Planning, Engineering, Parks & Recreation departments. In addition, he assists the City's litigation defense team.
