The McAllen Police Department conducts local criminal background checks and clearance letters* during normal business hours. Criminal History requests are only created with the subject’s authorization. All third party requests must be accompanied by a notarized authorization release form from the subject being inquired upon.

By mail, in-person, or or online. Download the Public Information Request Form and complete. Proper Identification is required to complete a criminal history request (i.e. Driver’s License, State issued ID, military ID, Alien registration card, and/or Passport. All identification must be current and valid in order to process your request. Copies of Proper Identification are required for all third party requests.

Services may be paid by cash/check/money order. Make check/money order payable to the City of McAllen. Do not send cash.

The background checks/clearance letters do not include any records of other cities, counties, or states.
