McAllen residents whose homes were affected by the flood should take the following steps as they begin to recover after the flood:

  • take photos of all damaged items in the home;
  • document the damage to their homes
  • work with their insurance agents.

If residents need to make repairs, they shouldgo ahead and begin making those repairs.  The City of McAllen has waived permit requirements for repairs related to the flood. Residents should/need to save BEFORE and AFTER photos of work that was done, as well as keep all receipts related to the damages and repairs.

Finally, residents should drain any standing water on their property as they are able to do so, to avoid breeding mosquitoes and use mosquito repellant.

Contact the City of McAllen at 681-1900 to request additional spraying if mosquito problems persist in neighborhood.

The City of McAllen is continuing to assess the damage and is working with State of Texas and federal officials to try and receive a F.E.M.A. Disaster Declaration which will then open up F.E.M.A. funds to impacted residents.
