STC to Host Innovation Conference & Public Safety Expo

by Office of Communications and Media Relations | Sep 19, 2013

South Texas College Dean Mario Reyna interviewed recently with the McAllen Cable Network's Ray Pedraza about two upcoming events, INNO' 2013 (a bi-national innovation conference) & the Public Safety & First Responders Expo.

Dean Reyna said the keynote address for INNO' 2013 (set for September 27) will be about "El Puente Baluarte", a bridge on a new superhighway linking Mazatlan & the rest of the Valley. This bridge and new superhighway will shorten travel time for fruit and product imports into the US and is being called "the next economic tsunami" because it will change the logistics and dynamics. No longer will Mexican importers have to travel to Nogales, Arizona to move their goods to the east coast, they will now be able to travel through the Rio Grande Valley. Registration for this conference is required. More details are available at: southtexascollege.edu/inno2013.

On Wednesday October 30, 2013, from 10 am to 3 pm, the public is also invited to a free Public Safety & First Responders Expo, at STC's Cooper Center, 3200 W. Pecan Blvd.

The Public Safety and First Responders Expo will inform students and the public of safety programs offered at South Texas College. These programs include Fire Science, Emergency Medical Technician, Criminal Justice and the Police Academy. In addition, representatives from local, state, and federal agencies are invited to demonstrate their initiatives, career paths and possible employment opportunities.
