Ride of Silence - Wednesday, May 21st at 5:30 pm

Team McAllen Cycling, a cycling group, is organizing the National Ride of Silence in McAllen, Pharr and Edinburg roadways on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:30 pm and wheels down at 6 pm.  The group is meeting at The Monitor’s parking lot at 1400 E. Nolana Ave., McAllen, Texas.  There have been four cyclists killed on Upper Valley roadways in the last six months alone.  Many more have been killed on our roadways.

 

According to organizers, all cyclists are welcome to ride and show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured on our roads.  Get your helmets and lights ready and come ride with us to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured on our roads. 

 

The Ride of Silence is held during National Bike Month - May.  The local ride will start with speakers, announcements, and a prayer at 5:30 p.m. at The Monitor parking lot 1400 Nolana Ave.  The route is 20 miles long and incorporates 3 ghost bike sites. The three ghost bikes that will be visited in the 20 mile loop are for Kenneth Bothwell, the Winter Texan killed in October 2013 near Sugar & Canton Road in Edinburg; Eddie Arguelles who recently was killed South of Trenton on Interstate 69C, and for Mary Catherine Cloud who was struck at the intersection of 2nd & Ridge on March 27th and died of her injuries on March 31st.  The ghost bike for the fourth cyclist killed, Israel Garza who was struck by a drunk driver on March 29th, will be dedicated by members of his family in the near future.
