McAllen Police Officers will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch run on May 21, 2014 at 6:30 am. McAllen Police Officers and other officers from other agencies will assemble at the McAllen Police Department (front parking area). Following brief ceremony police officers will start the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) was started in 1981 and is the Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fund-raiser and public awareness campaigns. Law enforcement officers throughout the world and Texas carry the "Flame of Hope" through their community’s streets and deliver it to their local, state, national or world Special Olympics Games.

“Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) is a privately funded non-profit organization that changes lives through the power of sport by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect”.*
