Mosquito prevention tips for your home

McAllen’s Health and Code Enforcement Director Josh Ramirez talks to us about mosquitos and how to prevent mosquitos from spreading at your home.  He offers tips on maintaining your yard and home.  With two reported cases of West Nile Virus, homeowners should do some housekeeping at home in your backyard to stay safe.

Tips

Empty water under your flower pots.

If you collect rain water, cover your rain barrels so mosquitos don’t breed.

Make sure you check areas where water collects    

Change bird bath water regularly.

Report neglected pools.

Make sure ponds and fountains have running water.

Check to see if your rain gutters are clogged.
