A Message from the Mayor

South Pole Illuminated Festival

The South Pole Illuminated Festival's return featured recreated snowfall, radiant tunnels, holiday fireworks, and Sunset Live concerts. This year, visitors walked through illuminated tunnels and captured selfies in Santa's Castle with interactive photo ops throughout the Convention Center grounds.

The fun of the holiday season began by celebrating under and with the stars at McAllen's Christmas in the Park event. The ever famous Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame trailer was available to the public. Attendees were able to see memorabilia, take pictures, and see replicas of the Dallas Cowboys locker room, SuperBowl trophies, and even player’s shoe size. In addition, the event featured a free family-friendly winter festival full of food, entertainment, arts & crafts, and local vendors. The City of McAllen partnered with South Texas College to offer a complimentary shuttle ride to the McAllen Holiday Parade.

The 2021 McAllen Holiday Parade theme was Rockin' Around the South Pole, representing McAllen's love of music and movement. The parade exemplified a high-energy broadcast and celebration zone along the parade route that featured the famed Vuelta, McAllen's giant balloon twirling tradition. The McAllen Holiday Parade proudly garnered 17 Texas Festival and Events Association Awards.

Michelangelo, A Different View Tour

The McAllen Convention Center hosted the Michelangelo – A Different View tour, a one-of-a-kind breathtaking exhibit of Renaissance artist Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Frescoes. The exhibition featured 45 awe-inspiring recreated pieces, including "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam."

El Salvador Consulate Exhibit

To celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, the McAllen International Airport partnered with the Consulate of El Salvador to present
“El Salvador Bicentenario” photography exhibit. The collection consisted of 16 curated photographs that depict Salvadorian traditions, people, gastronomy, and geography.

Dinos and Dragons

The McAllen Convention Center facilities reopened with an adventure through prehistoric times and imagination at the Dinos & Dragons Adventure Park. The outdoor mile-long walking adventure featured over 100 dinos and dragons, including three-story animated exhibits. In addition, participants were able to partake in an open-air movie theater, the Carnivore Café with carnival food, and the Dino Photo Studio.
