Water Alert: Stage One McAllen residents are requested to voluntarily follow the Stage 1 provisions of McAllen's Water Conservation Ordinance. Stage One Regulations - Water outdoors only on irrigation days:
- watering shall occur midnight to 10am or 6pm to midnight on irrigation days,
- irrigation days are determined by zone, and
- the city is divided into 6 zones

This includes cars, trucks, trailers, boats, and other mobile equipment. Washing to be done with a handheld bucket or hose with a positive shutoff. Fund raising car washes allowed, provided the above suggestions are implemented and followed. Permitted any time: Commercial car washes or commercial service stations.
- Permitted any day:
- hand-held hose or drip irrigation, and
- commercial nurseries or sod farming
- Adding water to swimming pools allowed on irrigation days between midnight and 10am, or from 6pm to midnight
- Ornamental fountains with recycling systems are permitted. All other fountains are not permitted
- Golf course fairway watering is prohibited, except when using treated sewage effluent or raw canal water.
- Fire hydrant use limited to fire fighting and maintaining the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens.
- You must:
- prevent watering from overflowing or spilling into a gutter or drain,
- repair controllable water leaks inside and outside your house or business,
- sweep, don't hose off all paved areas.
