Complete Construction for increased Capacity at North Waste Water Plant (8 to 18 mgd) and New Lift Station
This expansion project is scheduled to begin construction by September of 2000. The 6 mgd capacity increase will provide much needed additional capacity to the Northwest Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Design and Expand North Water Plant. (8 to 12 mgd)
McAllen Public Utility is currently in the design phase of improvements which will include tube settlers, high service pump modifications, chemical feed alterations, generator installation and an additional raw water source to reservoir. Improvements may begin as early as August of ’07.
Begin Construction of 29th Street Sanitary Sewer: Expressway to Balboa Lift Station
Beginning at the west bound frontage road of U.S. Expressway 83 and S. 29th St., a 42-inch Sanitary Sewer line will extend southward approximately 1.3 miles. This new sewer line will replace the existing 30-inch sewer line and add much needed capacity to the fast growing S. Bentsen Rd. and Convention Center areas.
Lift Station Rehabilitation Projects at Jonquil & N. 2nd St., Martin & 6th St., 8th & Quince and Beech and 16th St.
McAllen Public Utility is in the process of rehabilitating these four sanitary sewer lift stations for the betterment of the surrounding areas as well as the sewer collections system itself. These projects are expected to begin construction in the summer of 2007 and last until the new year of 2008.
Project #1
The wastewater Division is comprised of three departments. The Pretreatment Department which is responsible for monitoring the various industries located throughout the City of McAllen as well as administering the High Strength Surcharge Program which is a cost recovery program to help off set the cost of treatment at McAllen’s two Wastewater Treatment Plants.
Bentsen Road Water Line Improvements
In conjunction with the construction of the Bentsen Rd. Sanitary Sewer improvements, a 16-inch water transmission line is being installed along Bentsen Rd. to improve water pressure to the far western residents of the City of McAllen. Water main will extend from U.S. Expressway 83 to Nolana Ave., connecting two large water mains at Nolana Ave. and Expressway 83.
MPU is in the process of requesting engineering consulting services to investigate leaks in water system in order to provide MPU rate payers with the most efficient system possible. Consultant will coordinate with MPU staff and department personnel in order to evaluate the integrity of our current water system and make recommendations as necessary.
