The McAllen City Commission has honored the RGV Cupcake Factory, of McAllen, with a proclamation for their recent win on the Food Network. See the attached copy from the proclamation.

WHEREAS, on June 18, 2011, sisters Sabrina Rodriguez-Louck and Erica Rodriguez, along with their best friend Johanna Saenz, opened the RGV Cupcake Factory in McAllen, which features gourmet-style cupcakes named after celebrities such as Katy Perry, Hugh Hefner, Rhianna and Michael Jackson just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, only after three (3) months in business, the Rodriguez sisters applied to compete on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars where its cupcake vs. cupcake in the tastiest competition on national television, in which each week, four of the country’s top cupcake bakers face off in three elimination challenges until only one decorator remains winning the sweet prize of $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their cupcakes at the winning gig; and
WHEREAS, the application process was an 8-step/2-week interview process that included a questionnaire, bio history and video audition. Over 300 bakeries around the nation applied for this particular show but only four teams including the RGV Cupcake Factory, were selected travel to Los Angeles, California to not only compete for the cash prize - but would also have the distinguished honor of displaying their cupcakes at the Hollywood Black Film Festival which would be attended by high-profile celebrities; and
WHEREAS, the RGV Cupcake Factory became the first in the State of Texas to earn the distinguished title of Cupcake War Champions which brought them and their shop instant success with increased business and which also brought greater recognition to the Rio Grande Valley and the City of McAllen; and
WHEREAS, the McAllen City Commission would like to commend RGV Cupcake Factory on their remarkable accomplishment on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and would like to wish them success in future endeavors;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Hilda Salinas, City Commissioner of the City of McAllen, Texas by virtue of the authority vested in me and on behalf of myself and the City Commission, do hereby proclaim July 9, 2012 as:
“RGV Cupcake Factory Day”
