The taxpayers’ cost of controlling the pet population in McAllen increased from $263,000 in 2008 to over $367,000 in 2010. In an effort to reduce costs, the City of McAllen passed a revised animal ordinance that encourages sterilization of pets along with incentives to pet owners. The revised pet ordinance is posted on McAllen.net, in the City Focus section.
