Garbage Collection

General Information

The City of McAllen has a fully automated curbside residential collection and offers dumpsters and roll-off containers for commercial collection. As an alternative to driving to the landfill and in efforts to reduce illegal dumping in McAllen, the City has a drop-off site available. This facility is located at 4101 N. Bentsen and its hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12:00pm. Residents are allowed to dispose of tires, metals, construction debris, brush trimmings, old appliances, etc. Note: We are no longer accepting construction debris due to the weight and possibility of hazardous material.

A small fee is applied to the utility bill when disposing at this site. This service is offered for residential use only.

Commercial Collection

The City of McAllen provides commercial solid waste services at a competitive rate. Contact the Public Works Department for pricing and proper size container.

Residential Collection

Households: Each residential customer receives two automated containers, one black, for garbage and one blue, for commingled recyclables. Containers need to be by the curbside or in the alley by 7:00 am the day of collection. Residential curbside collection is picked-up twice per week: once for garbage and once for recycling.

Apartments

Apartment complexes have commercial type bins for garbage disposal. If you live in a duplex, four-plex or in an apartment complex and are interested in recycling, bring your recyclables to the Recycling Center located at 4101 N. Bentsen.

Multi-family complexes are encouraged to participate in a volunteer recycling program that utilizes 300 gallon containers. Residents are allowed to dispose of bulky waste and recyclable materials. A small fee is applied to your utility bill when disposing bulky waste at this site. For more information call the Public Works office at (956) 681-4000.
