Law Enforcement Team Up to Curb Holiday DWI

The McAllen Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Edinburg Police Department and Pharr Police Department will work together to crack down on drunk driving and provide a safe holiday season.

Local law enforcement agencies are coordinating to implement law enforcement patrols in an effort to make a regional impact against driving under the influence (DUI’s).

Part of the strategy for the McAllen Police Department is to deploy a DWI (driving while intoxicated) task force every day starting on Friday, December 13, 2013 through Saturday, January 4, 2014.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said some of the efforts will include “no refusal enforcement” on certain days. In a refusal circumstance, officers will conduct blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to provide a breath or blood sample.

The local law enforcement agencies remind motorists to be safe this holiday season and do not drink and drive and have a designated driver, or call a taxi, when necessary.
