Texas National Bank has teamed up with the Palm View Golf Course to make wishes come true for children in the Rio Grande Valley with the “1st Texas National Bank Driving for Wishes Golf Classic.” Texas National Bank officials announced the golf tournament project to help the Make-a-Wish Rio Grande Valley at a news conference on Friday, August 29, 2014.

“Texas National Bank is a community bank that prides itself on knowing our community – not just the needs but, the wonderful people too.  We wanted to create an event that would impact our community and represent our great organization,” said, Arturo Ortega, CEO of Texas National Bank.

Palm View Golf Course Director Carlos Espinosa says fate played a big role to make this golf tournament possible, not only for himself but for his daughter Karla Espinosa who dreamed of creating a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish but did not know how she was going to raise thousands of dollars.

“I told my daughter Karla the good golf tournaments have to raise thousands of dollars to make a difference.  I know Make-A-Wish is an incredible local organization and deserved the best.  But, I told my daughter it would be hard for her to do it alone.  But, just by chance, I was approached days later by Arturo Ortega from Texas National Bank who wanted to create a new golf tournament that would impact our community and something they could call their own,” said Espinosa. “I knew I had a solution for my daughter and Mr. Ortega at Texas National Bank for them to team up and help critically ill children in the Rio Grande Valley.  Karla would coordinate the tournament and Mr. Ortega would raise funds for the charitable organization.”

Karla Espinosa quickly filled the 140 golf spots available with eager Texas National Bank officials and friends in the community.

“It has been a learning experience for me to work with professionals in the community like Mr. Ortega from Texas National Bank.  I’m excited we have reached our goal.  I am very proud that we were able to work together to raise monies for Make-A-Wish RGV because it is a great organization that brings smiles to children in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Espinosa, now the tournament director.

The 1st Texas National Bank Driving for Wishes Golf Classic is expected to raise more than $40,000. The tournament is scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Palm View Golf Course.
