PalmFest 2014 at McAllen Convention Center Sat., Oct 4th & Sun. Oct. 5th

The 9th Annual PalmFest International Folklife Celebration is shaping up to be one of the best in our history!  Coming to you on Saturday & Sunday, October 4 & 5, 2014 at the beautiful McAllen Convention Center on Ware Road & Expressway 83-  PalmFest will feature major attractions, historical displays, shopping, art, family games, rides and kids activities, cooking competitions and demonstrations, live entertainment, classic car show, diverse food and beverage. Over 40,000 people will enjoy the event inside the Convention Center and all around the grounds in the Oval Park and Reflecting Pond.



The McAllen Heritage Center – museum of history and culture will feature the rich and colorful history of Deep South Texas in the “Heritage Village” inside the Convention Center.  Other displays include  artisans; Museum of South Texas History exhibit, local art work and the expanded Valley Rails- rail exhibit which is always a favorite with attendees of all ages.  The rustic Lonesome Dove stage in this area will feature local musicians strumming their guitars for your enjoyment and is also a great picture spot. 

The hugely successful Dancing Horse show moves inside this year to the Junior’s OK Corral with more even more entertainment including the Gunfighter’s Comedy Show!!

The fun loving and educational magician John O’Bryant is back in the Ballroom stage to perform his brand of PalmFest magic! 

The outdoor Heritage Village features an authentic cowboy campsite, musicians, the colorful American Indian Village complete with tipis and performances daily. You may encounter the famous revolutionary- Pancho Villa roaming the grounds with his banditos!


 

The Fajita Cookoff will be back with some of the fiercest cooking competitions on this side of the Rio Grande River. There will be 5 cooking categories all indigenous to the Valley; Frijoles, Pan de Campo, Mollejas, Traditional & Gourmet Fajitas.   This year, a new Cookoff joins PalmFest—Mike Key and his Dutch Oven Cookoff competition will be held on Saturday and is sanctioned by the IDOS.   
More rides and inflatable’s for the kids in our “KidsVille” will provide hours of carnival excitement!  Make sure your kids meet “Palmee” our lovable mascot and our special guests from Yo Gabba Gabba!



WOW!!  EIGHT live entertainment stages (four indoors) will feature a variety of local performers and musical talent, exciting bands and dance groups including Indian, Folkloric, Middle Eastern, Belly dancing and more.



The PalmFest shopping experience gets better and better with our “El Mercado” Arts & Crafts fun outdoor shopping at PalmFest and indoors..visit the “Hecho en Mexico” shopping area with over 50 Mexican vendors selling their handcrafted work. 

Don’t forget to Rent a paddle boat in the Reflecting Pond to gain another perspective on all festival activities!
