BGCM and I & G Center embrace urban forestry initiative

by Public Information Office | Nov 30, 2015

McAllen- The Boys and Girls Club of McAllen and the Instruction and Guidance Center will launch a tree-planting project in McAllen.

Through the Apaches Grant, the primary focus of this initiative is to increase the number and aesthetic value of trees in the city while enhancing the quality of life for future generations to come.  Educational opportunities are created for citizens to become proactive in caring for trees within their neighborhood parks, streets, and natural green spaces.

Through hands-on education, the community’s youth will learn multiple benefits of trees while being encouraged as stewards to adopt and care for their trees.  Beyond providing shade and wildlife habitats, the community will have access to cutting edge designs and vertical gardens.

The initiative is a collaborative effort of the McAllen Public Works, Keep McAllen Beautiful and Rodz Landscaping.
