Next McAllen Marathon to be held at McAllen Convention Center, Jan. 15, 2017

McALLEN 
– City of McAllen officials held a press conference today to announce exciting new developments to the spectacular marathon that is already a favorite for runners. 

 

City Manager Roel "Roy" Rodriguez P.E., announced to a crowd full of runners that next year's McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run would be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017. 

 

"It's something that the City is very proud of, however we think we can do a much better job of it," Rodriguez said. 

 

Rodriguez added that in order to be able to provide bigger and better facilities to accommodate everyone, the marathon races would also be moved to the McAllen Convention Center. 

 

The 5k race, which will be in its second year, will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017. 

 

Much of the Crane family was also in attendance and Sasha Crane invited the community to start gearing up for next year. 

 

"Come out, be healthy, spend the next year getting healthy and stronger," Crane said. 

 

Amid cheers, Rodriguez, committed to the half marathon next year. 

 

"Let's get healthy, I'm going to do the 13 miles next year, I'm committing to doing it. Let's make the McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run the best in Texas."
