McAllen
- City of McAllen Public Works Director is in the spotlight. He has been appointed to the Texas Municipal League’s (TML) Revenue and Finance Committee.

Sanchez’ appointment means he will play a key role in developing legislative policies for the 2017 Texas Legislative session.

“I feel that my participation in the Revenue and Finance Committee is a great learning opportunity while at the same time representing the interest of the City of McAllen and members of the Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association,” Sanchez said. “As member, I plan to contribute to the best of my ability towards the success of this committee and share the information with all interested parties.  I am looking forward to serving in this capacity.”

The Revenue and Finance Committee is tasked to focus on legislative matters that deal with cities’ two main sources of revenue; sales taxes and property taxes. The committee will also bring attention to legislative matters that create unfunded state mandates or require cities to raise money for the state.

In the past, the Revenue and Finance Committee has framed TML’s positions regarding on matters such as Property Appraisal Caps, Effective and Rollback Rate “Reform”, Property Tax Exemptions, Sales Tax Exemptions, and Expansion of Sales Tax Base.

According to TML president C.J. Wax, Sanchez’ experience in municipal government and knowledge of relevant issues makes him a great value to the league.
