The McAllen Police Department reminds all motor vehicle operators that the City of McAllen will be the host of marathon running events Saturday and Sunday.

Beginning at 7:00 AM Saturday, McAllen area school children will participate in the final mile of their marathon. This event will take place at and around the McAllen Convention Center site.

Beginning at 7:00 AM Sunday, runners will participate in the McAllen Marathon – Scott Crane Memorial Run.  This event starts and ends at the McAllen Convention site – however, the marathon event crisscrosses the entirety of the City of McAllen.

“We urge driver awareness” said Chief Victor Rodriguez. The Chief further added that “motor vehicle operators should be aware that these events are occurring in our City this weekend and should beware runners and event volunteers will be on our roadways. Motor vehicle operators should give greater consideration to pre-dawn conditions and weather elements such as fog”. All drivers should plan accordingly. Driver safety is part of the success of these events.”
