McAllen- Storytime and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) backpacks are now available for checkout at McAllen Public Library’s Main Library. The Storytime backpacks are meant for children under 5 years old, while the STEM backpacks are suitable for children in grades 1st to 5th. They are also available to children with special needs.

Each is filled with resources to help children develop the tools for success.

“The backpacks will create a meaningful learning experience for children and MPL is the first library to offer to the backpacks in the RGV,” Mayor Jim Darling said. “This is a great asset for our community.”

The Storytime Backpacks contain materials and activities designed to create a fun and interactive storytime experience at home. They are available in six themes: the alphabet, numbers, opposites, shapes, colors, and farm animals.  Each backpack contains picture books, storyboards, rhymes and songs, and interactive activities and worksheets.

The STEM backpacks contain resources and materials to help children gain valuable exposure to STEM concepts. Each is available in six themes: the weather, the human body, space, the 5 senses, nutrition, and insects. Each backpack contains books, interactive activities, informational worksheets, and a DVD.
