Artwork design should reflect benefit, appreciation of water

McAllen Public Utility is hosting a its first-ever “Grateful for Water” art contest.  The competition, open to 9th through 12th grade students who are McAllen residents, should depict artwork that shows the way water enriches their lives.  The deadline for submissions is November 15, 2023.

“Students are being asked to create an original piece of art, that demonstrates their gratitude for water,” said Katia Sanchez, MPU Education Coordinator.

Original art can be a painting, drawing, sculpture or digital art, with no limitations on dimensions.  Artwork should have a fitting title with a one to two sentence description of the benefit, appreciation or gratitude for water in their lives.

First prize winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card; second place winner will receive a $75 Visa gift card; and third place winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card.

Deadline to submit artwork will be 5:00 p.m. by Wednesday, November 15, 2023, via email to ksanchez@mcallen.net. Sculptures or other 3D artwork should be submitted via photos to that same email address and turned in to the McAllen Office of Communications, 3rd Floor, McAllen City Hall, 1300 W. Houston Ave., by that deadline, as well.
