What is Vision Zero ?

Vision Zero is the City of McAllen’s safety action plan to help reduce severe injuries and fatalities on City of McAllen roadways to ZERO. The plan, which was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Road for All grant program, focuses on ensuring safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.

Additionally, the plan discusses in detail strategies that will emphasize the shared responsibility of various stakeholders including government agencies, transportation planners, law enforcement, individuals, and community organizations to create safer streets and promote sustainable transportation options.

The plan will further identify areas where McAllen can make improvements to protect bicyclist, pedestrian and vehicular traffic through safer street design, targeted law enforcement public engagement or evidence-base public policy to ensure McAllen’s streets are safe for everyone.

How can you help?

In order to have a strong Vision Zero plan the City of McAllen needs your feedback. The initial feedback phase of this plan will begin in March 2024 and then pick back up in July where the plan will be available for Public comment.

For March, Pop Up Events are scheduled to be held at each District. These events will be a time where you can meet the City Staff working on the Plan and fill out surveys that will help capture important data.
